In India, it is believed that if the bones of a dead person are shed in the Ganges, then they get merit, is it reality or superstition?

There is a very narrow line between what is superstition and what is reality, which we call faith and understand from fact.
  • Why we mix ashes of dead people in Rivers?
  • why do we do asthi visarjan?
  • Why do we immerse ashes in Ganga

If you understand the reason behind something, then you start calling it science. And if the science behind it is not understood, then that thing also becomes superstition.

So technically, the thing is the same, the work is also happening the same, just because of your change of understanding, the thing falls into one of the two parts of scientific and superstition.

I spoke to different people on this issue

According to some, this is straightforward superstition
For some it is a matter of faith and
For some, it was a mere tradition that they neither meant superstition nor did they have anything to do with faith. People are going on doing, that's why we are doing it.

People have been doing this and that is why we are doing it, for this reason, anything goes into one of the two parts of faith and superstition. If you know the reason behind doing it then there is no problem.

Ganga water is considered medicinal since ancient times, even today the water of Ganga is not spoiled. Many people have done research.

There was a Muslim Vaidya from the district Bijnor, he did a research. We also saw research.
According to him, the area around Haridwar Har Ki Paidi is the most sacred water and it has the highest medicinal properties. According to them, the way sunlight falls on the water, the angle it falls from is larger. What is the importance behind this is the science that he knew but according to his research this was the same thing.

There is no written evidence of this because the Government of India did not create any such institution that does research on Ayurveda or recognizes its research.

But it was not our question, just try to tell here that Ganga water has some specialty.

Why bones are shed in the river, especially in the Ganges water, some scientific facts are told behind it. But it is not that some people consider this as mere tradition and immerse the bones of their ancestors in any river and without thinking it can be wrong.

There was a shortage of some minerals in the water of river Ganges. In which copper is also one for which coins are said to be an excuse. But that is the case for copper coins.

Similarly, phosphorus was also lacking in this water. To remove that deficiency, religion has been linked to the fact that if you immerse the bones of your ancestors in the river Ganges, you will get merit.

By the way, if this thing is told to anyone that to make the Ganges water more medicinal, you should immerse the bones of your ancestors in the river Ganga from 100 km away, then no one will come.

It is true that if phosphorus is added to it and that water is used by someone, then it will gain merit.

This was a scientific reason, there was no superstition. It is just the difference between intelligent people to understand. But there is also one thing here that how much is needed in today's time, it can be researched.
